Korean Food: Bibimbap

Korean cuisine has been on the list to try on my quest to find healthy gluten- free ethnic cuisine. I experimented with my homemade Kim Chee (KimChi) recipe and liked the outcome. Kim Chee is a traditional fermented Korean dish made of different vegetables, such as napa cabbage, radish, cucumber, etc. Kim Chee is not only gluten free, but also has lots of good probiotics.

Bibimbap is a traditional Korean dish consists of warm rice served with lots of vegetables, sliced meat and an egg. I’ve seen two types of bibimbap: regular bibimbap and dolsot bibimbap, which is served in a hot stone bowl. I like Maangchi’s Bibimbap recipe for a good homemade version.

One of the highlights of Korean meals are the Banchan. These are the small dishes of food served with meals. I love the variety of different small dishes to try out, such as pickled cucumbers, fried tofu, kim chee radish, braised potato.
